Taylor Swift Launches New Era With ‘ME!’

New label…new Taylor Swift. The 29-year-old singer-songwriter is back with her new single, “ME!” which just dropped today.

The accompanying music video has already garnered over 20 million views at the time of this post and it’s sure to break records and become your new self-empowerment anthem and quite possibly be on repeat for your summer playlist.

The following below are my reactions upon viewing said video:

Dave Meyers co-directed the music video with Taylor and he’s best known for making Ariana Grande’s “No Tears Left To Cry” music video and P!nk’s “Just Like Fire” music video.

Already we see a snake slithering down a colorful brick sidewalk alluding to her previous album’s dark era and ushering in a new colorful era in 2019.

The snake eventually hisses and bursts as butterflies emerge.

Brendon Urie from Panic! at the Disco stars in this music video and we see an argument brewing as Taylor Swift’s character leaves the room shouting “I AM CALM” in French.

Cameos by her real life cats Olivia Benson and Meredith Grey made for a cute moment as well as the two characters’ “daughters.”

The song officially starts at 0:46. For some reason I thought this song was going to be similar to her “Delicate” music video where she’s dancing in the halls.

Clouds, a staircase, fancy paintings and colorful pant suits emerge.

The chorus kicks in at 1:20 to a backdrop of colorful pant suit wearing backup dancers as Swift belts out “I promise you’ll never find another like ME!”

1:45, Brendon’s character leaps out of their apartment and clings onto an umbrella conveniently waiting for him to hold on as they soar through the skies.

Also cue a wardrobe change as his suit has suddenly grew spots.

Urie’s character eventually proposes to Swift’s character now adorning a frilly pink dress with another cat as she initially denies the age old gift of flowers and the traditional wedding ring.

He reveals his heart to his love as the video transports us in this heart shaped world with Urie dancing in this 70s style dance montage.

All the lovey dovey stuff continues as they dance on stage which eventually leads us back outside. You can’t help but feel good watching this sequence unfold.

2:42 HEY KIDS, SPELLING IS FUN! I can totally vision a Sesame Street version in the future being made.

There ain’t no “I” in TEAM but you know there is a ME! A bit cheesy but you still can’t help but smile at this part of the song.

This just makes me think of another spelling themed song in Gwen Stefani’s “Hollaback Girl” where she spells BANANAS. Correct me if I’m wrong but I think that was the last mainstream spelling based song.

3:00 YOU CAN’T SPELL AWESOME WITHOUT ME!

The duo go inside another building which eventually leads to yet another dance moment…

…and then back to their original apartment neighborhood now adorned with a splash of color and colorful flow of water.

Chorus repeats a few more times and ends with Urie holding an umbrella for Swift as the heavy colorful rain continues to pour on them.

Message Of The Video: Embrace your uniqueness and love yourself!
