Grammy award-winning rock band, Imagine Dragons have released their fifth studio album this week called Mercury — Act 1 and it will definitely make you smile, feel seen, get chills and appreciate life’s moments.
Here below is a mood edition of my first reactions series.
“My Life”
😔 This is such a heartbreaking track to hear. It sounds like someone struggling with their life, resorting to substances/or drugs.
😃 Melodically, the song pivots around the 2:30 mark. I love the transition here.
🎻 Lead singer, Reynolds playing the violin ftw! The strings portion adds to the vulnerability of this song.
“Lonely”
🥺👉🏽👈🏽 This song will resonate a lot among the shy, nervous introverted listeners. Numerous occasions you hide or run away from social activities. You get anxious when in public settings.
😮 Artistically speaking this track is pretty nifty for its usage of vocal counterpoint. Love to see a band this established finding new ways to create songs. Bravo guys!

“Monday”
💞 What a sweet heartwarming song dedicated to Reynolds decade long relationship with his wife, Aja!
😁 I love his Monday metaphor. “You are my Monday (You are my Monday), you’re the best day of the week (Best day of the week)
So underrated (So underrated) and a brand new start (Brand new start).”
“#1”
🌟 “I know what I’m meant to be, These people might not see
When it’s all been said and done
I’m still my number one” These words reassure you that you have to shrug off the haters, don’t listen to all the criticism and noise. You’re in control of your life!
“Easy Come Easy Go”
🤷 People come into our lives then they suddenly leave. That’s life! But it definitely will have you thinking hard about what happened, why the sudden change?!?!
🥁 I appreciate the studio footage in this lyric video. Love Reynolds getting into the song’s beat via the air drumming.
“Giants”
🗣️ Reynolds really channeled a lot of emotion into this track about the struggles of becoming sober. That bridge hits hard!!
“It’s Ok”
🤗 Despite the lyrics talking about days when you’re feeling blue or not yourself in general, the song feels like a nice warm hug. It’s okay to not be okay. Those feelings are still valid. Take the time to rest and practice self-care!
🙌 Whenever they play this song live in concert, it’s going to generate a hands swaying back and forth moment! Will truly be a delight to witness!
“Dull Knives”
🆘 for those crying for help because they’re at an all time low point in their life! It’s another one of those vulnerable tracks for the band! Love the heavier rock sounds in this track.

“Follow You”
😎 This still is my favorite of their radio singles released so far! Read my initial reactions to the song, here.
“Cutthroat”
🔥 for those fiery savage lyrics! The experimental sounds will leave you appreciative of their efforts to channel their idol, Nine Inch Nails.
“No Time For Toxic People”
👿 No time for toxic people in your life, PERIOD!! That should be everyone’s mantra in life. Don’t listen to these kind of humans, they’re not worth your time. Let them sulk and think about you 24/7 and your accomplishments all they want. Let them be jealous. Be proud of what you’ve achieved in life.
🌞 Surround yourself with the people who will cheer for you, love you, and be in your life in every way possible through thick and thin! I felt like this song was a nice companion to “#1.”
“One Day”
☀️ The closing track ends on a bright note of optimism! Definitely a sharp contrast with the opening track.
