“High” by The Chainsmokers
The electronic hitmaking duo, The Chainsmokers have finally returned to the music scene with their leading single, “High” from their forthcoming fourth studio album.
Are you feeling like your relationship is on the rocks right now, (or in the music video’s case on the edge of a plane or building??) Then I strongly feel like this song will resonate with you a lot!
No matter what you do or say, the person you’re dating doesn’t fully love you back unless they’re drunk or high or perhaps both. What a shame! Deep down, you want them to embrace you and your flaws when they’re not under the influence. Frustrating stuff if you’re on this figurative boat not going to lie. Tough times like this will lead to many sleepless nights and wrestled thoughts.
As for the production, my favorite part would be towards the end when it transitions into the outro. I thought the music video’s exaggerated green screen scenes, most notably on the plane’s wings, off the edge of a crumbling building, and on the steel beams hundreds of feet up high perfectly encapsulated the intensity/theme of a rocky relationship.

I’m looking forward to hearing more from Alex Pall and Drew Taggart as we get closer to the new album’s release date sometime this year. I fully expect this song to go viral on TikTok, get spun into several remixes, to be played at numerous music festivals around the world, receive ample radio play, and recognition in the electronic music world.
“26” by Lauv
Another great artist you should check out this week is 27-year-old singer-songwriter, Lauv. His new song “26” dives deep into his psyche when he wrote it in his 26th year of life.
Very deep stuff to unpack here indeed. He mentions his early fame then this void in his heart and soul which left him feeling unsatisfied with his career in his second and third verses. Sure money can buy you happiness but it will never buy you additional time that you lost when you were in the depths of despair.
The main takeaway from this vulnerable track is that life isn’t perfect. If you get that phrase through your head and appreciate your mistakes/quirks/choices, what have you, then you can move on from this temporary down period.
Hopefully, by taking the time to process one’s life and career, a renewed sense of clarity and direction will follow!
Judging by his recent video tweet, he’s pleased/psyched with the direction he’s taking in his career as we get closer to his second full-length album being announced and dropped. Are you excited?
“Boys Don’t Cry” by Anitta
If you’re looking for a new artist to check out, definitely listen to Brazilian singer, Anitta’s “Boys Don’t Cry.” It’s a very nice empowering anthem for the ladies out there!
In the song, she champions her strong ability to not be controlled by another man. She can stand her ground if the situation warrants it in a relationship.
Sonically speaking, this is a pretty jumpy uptempo song with 80s influences. This is my first time being exposed to her vocals. I’m glad I stumbled upon her. After hearing this new song of hers, I can safely say she has the most potential to be the next biggest global mainstream pop star! She has a very impressive future outlook for sure! I hope more people discover her body of work this year.
I look forward to hearing her new album, Girl From Rio which drops later this year.
“Joy” by Andy Grammer
Moving on to another positive track…this one’s from Andy Grammer, the multi-Platinum-selling recording artist! I loved hearing this song, it exudes so much serotonin! You need to add this one to your playlists this week!
His vocals alongside the notable trumpets and sax on this record will induce a lot of hand clapping, raising your hands to the sky, and smiles all around.
Lyrically, the song talks about finding sheer happiness in life! That can be from a multitude of things, for example, a newborn baby, finding and landing a new job, graduating from school, buying a new house, getting a raise, marrying your significant other, learning a new craft and so much more!
Sure, life will always have its down moments and you will experience other feelings along the way too like doubt, jealousy and shame, but joy always seems to permeate back into your livelihood.
I predict this song will get used in a lot of TV commercials/montages/clip packages of jovial moments.
“Anyone For You” by George Ezra
For my final pick this week, we have George Ezra’s “Anyone For You.” I love the message of this song. He’s singing about being the light to someone’s life. He’s the reliable guy that they can lean on through thick and thin.
Whether it be a budding relationship or a deeply established relationship, people will gravitate towards this song and dedicate it to their lover.
I love, love, love the piano melody of this song! Very infectious beat that will have you humming the song long after you play the song!
Even if the relationship doesn’t end up being a stable and long-term deal, Ezra declares no hard feelings as evident by the second verse:
Tiger lily, don’t forget me
The way I am or the way I was
The music video showcases the English musician belting out his heartfelt new tune while strumming the guitar and wearing a jacket that reads Gold Rush Kid. That’s the title of his upcoming third studio album by the way which releases June 10th, 2022!
