Avril Lavigne: Let Go (Previously Unreleased Tracks) (First Reactions)

Can you believe it’s been 20 years since Avril Lavigne’s iconic debut album, Let Go was released?!? Today, in celebration of the milestone, Lavigne dropped 6 new tracks in addition to the remastered 13 original tracks! Check out my first reactions to the new songs below!

“Why” by Avril Lavigne

🙏🏽 This is a track for those with lingering feelings for their ex. The more time spent apart is causing you to feel more anguish.

Hopefully, your ex realizes their mistake and comes back to you for a second chance!

🔊 The overall sound of this track makes me feel like it’s the early 2000s again! Love it! I don’t know about you but I feel this would work well as a Taylor Swift song too.

“Get Over It” by Avril Lavigne

🎻🎸 – I simply love the instrumentation and arrangement of this B-side track! The violins at the start set the seriousness of the lyrics which paints a picture opposite of “Why.” This is the flip side of things, you are over it, and no matter how many attempts your ex makes to get back with you, you want them to realize that it’s simply over!

In this instance, hopefully, your ex wakes up and moves on from your life and stops bothering you!!

🙌 – Yes!! That final “Get Over It” in the outro is the cherry on the sundae!

“Breakaway” by Avril Lavigne

Lyrics: https://genius.com/Avril-lavigne-breakaway-lyrics

😎 – I love Kelly Clarkson’s version of “Breakaway” knowing that Lavigne was the original songwriter. It’s equally amazing that Lavigne finally released her rockier version today after it was given away to the Grammy-winning Clarkson back in 2004 on her album of the same name.

🥁 – I love the heavier percussive drum line in this version.

🤔 – I wonder what Kelly thinks of Avril’s version of the song. Imagine the two sang this together one day on TV?!? A performance mashup of both versions would be cool not going to lie!

Falling Down” by Avril Lavigne

Lyrics: https://genius.com/Avril-lavigne-falling-down-lyrics

🎞️ – This song originally appeared on the 2002 rom-com film, Sweet Home Alabama‘s soundtrack.

📘 – This song is all about going at your own pace in life. You don’t need to rush things in life. Also we all have our own tempo when it comes to learning from our mistakes.

🎼 – Lovely vocals, melody and arrangement!

“I Don’t Give” by Avril Lavigne

Lyrics: https://genius.com/Avril-lavigne-i-dont-give-lyrics

📽️ – This B-sides track originally appeared on the American Wedding soundtrack in 2003.

😈 – This song is designed for those who are strong and holding tough after a breakup. You don’t care anymore about the relationship you had with your ex. Playing this song to your ex will likely get the message across.

“Make Up” by Avril Lavigne

Lyrics: https://genius.com/Avril-lavigne-make-up-lyrics

💪 – This is a self-confidence anthem for those feeling their authentic selves. You are happy with your life, how you look, your overall career, etc. It’s all good and no one can tarnish your image or break your character!
